Welcome to the Third Grade Web Page. We are looking forward to meeting students on back to school night on August 23rd from 5-7p.m. Students are welcome to bring all their school supplies that evening.
3RD GRADE IN A NUTSHELL
Third grade is a pivotal point in your child's elementary school days. They come to third grade with a foundation of knowledge which they learned in K-2. It is in third grade that your child will learn how to be an independent thinker.
Reading
Reading 30 minutes each night will help insure that your child keep their reading skills fresh. Comprehension in third grade consists of a more deeper understanding of the story, as well as the characters and the authors purpose.
Writing
In third grade your child will be working on many personal narratives. Keeping a summer journal will help keep ideas fresh in your child's mind.
Math
Your child will continue to build on the math skills they learned in 2nd grade. Remember to practice math facts on a regular basis. The Everyday Math website has lots of great games to make learning fun.
Everyday Math goals are listed as Beginning, Developing, and Secure. Some goals throughout the year may be a new concept, a beginning goal for your student, or a developing goal, something they are familiar with but still learning. The secure goal is something your child should understand. Please check the Everyday Math link help you know where your child is at.
